Ruth and Steve

" Ruth and Steve married in May near their home in Kent... "

Steve and I married at a beautiful and unusual venue called the Pines Calyx near to where we both grew up on the Kent coast. The Pines Calyx is not only beautifully situated in lovely grounds with incredible sea views but it is also the only venue in the UK to be classed as carbon zero, meaning it generates more of its own power and heat than it uses.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather and had a gorgeous sunny day at the end of May for our wedding. We’d chosen an indoor country garden theme, incorporating lots of greenery and ivy, which worked beautifully with our rural setting.

I was incredibly happy with my dress and accessories for our day. I wore a beautiful Benjamin Roberts gown with a pretty lace bolero, though I’m not really a heels kind of a girl so I also wore very untraditional purple Converse under my dress!

My stunning Celine headpiece was made by Nicky at Silver Sixpence and I couldn’t have been happier with it. It complemented my dress perfectly (no accident as Nicky and I spoke a lot about what would work best) and I chose it partly with the intention that I could take my Bethany Blusher veil off after the ceremony (which I didn’t actually do until the photographer told me to because I loved wearing it so much!). I had so many compliments on my headpiece and it arrived beautifully packaged in a gift box which I can keep it in forever and pass down to my daughters to maybe wear one day. Nicky also made me a lovely wedding gift of a matching lucky horseshoe to carry on the day.

Our two daughters Connie and Kitty were our flower girls and I was incredibly proud of how beautiful they looked on the day. Walking into the ceremony room with them and seeing Steve’s face as he waited for us at the end of the aisle, surrounded by all the people we love most in the world all there under one roof, was definitely my happiest moment of the whole day.

We had around 80 people in attendance and our wedding day was a very joyful and raucous celebration! After our incredible day at The Pines Calyx ended we simply moved the party back to our favourite pub at home in St Margaret’s Bay, The Cliff, and continued there until the small hours!

There were a lot of sore heads the next day, ours included, but I wouldn’t change a single thing about it – our day was truly magical.
