About Silver Sixpence in her Shoe

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe", is where my name comes from

I love traditions, and I love weddings so my aim is to create handmade accessories for the vintage inspired bride, but with a modern edge. Every piece is custom-made by my own fair hands, from rare fabrics and embellishments. Because I make these from scratch myself you can modify the pieces easily to suit your look, if you wish.

The planet is really important to me too, I pride myself on re-using and up-cycling jewellery and old heirlooms wherever possible to keep those memories alive and reduce waste. My boxes and tissue used are all made in the UK from fully recycled materials. Most of my embellishments sourced are from vintage sources. I even scrub the mud from the used horseshoes by myself before decorating them!

I offer a full bespoke design service, incorporating and upcycling your family heirlooms or trinkets where requested for the most personal of bridal accessories. Alternatively I can offer you a treasure trove of vintage brooches and laces to choose from from every era possible, in my workroom.

My online range of hand-crafted accessories are, I hope, both timeless and utterly elegant. Designed to be loved at first sight and treasured forever. I love the idea that these might be passed to a daughter or someone special to you one day in your future.

Silver Sixpence designs are available for delivery worldwide, arriving beautifully packaged and ready to wear on your special day.

"Silver Sixpence in her Shoe was established in 2009 by Nicola Wellard following a fruitless search for her own perfect wedding accessories and a desire to create beautiful things."

Meet Nicola Wellard

Prior to my wedding in 2009, I gained an honours degree in Fashion Design from Nottingham Trent University, followed by more than ten years’ experience as a buyer and design manager for a number of high-street fashion brands, including perennial occasion wear favourite, Coast. A desire to be flexible for my 2 young children and to get out of meetings and back into creating drove me to start up my brand.
